Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala
While you’re in Guatemala, you can tour Tikal, an ancient Mayan city. This site is one of the largest archeological sites of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization, so if you’re interesting in learning about the history of the Maya, this is the place to visit. At Tikal, make sure to visit the Temple of the Grand Jaguar, Temple of the Masks, or any of the thousands of buildings that make up the city.
Lima, Peru
One of the nearby ruins that you can visit is located 20 miles outside of Lima. This site, which was built by the Inca, is called Pachacamac. Because of its religious significance, you can see many temples here, such as the Painted temple, Old Temples, and the Temple of the Sun. In addition to Pachacamac, there are other ruins near Lima such as Huaca Huantille, Caral, and Huaca Tres Palos.
Huatulco, Mexico
Located 10 miles outside of Huatulco is an eco-archeological park where you can find the ruins of Copalita. It’s uncertain who the original settlers were because this site has influence from many different groups, including the Chichimecas, Nahuatls, Mixtecs, and Zapotecs. Here you can enjoy the civic-ceremonial center, plazas, temples, and ball court.
Every city that you visit on this cruise has different experiences to offer. Whether you want to spend the day touring ruins or eating your way through the city, we will assist you in having the best experience while you’re on our 23-Day Inca Discovery Cruise.
