However, it is the perfect place for getting to know more about the country’s history and cultural identity. During your stay at San Jose, you can visit the Mercado Central (Central Market), the Teatro Nacional (National Theatre) or any of the many museums the city has. Moreover, you can visit some of San Jose’s most important churches, such as Catedral Metropolitana (Metropolitan Cathedral), and witness Costa Rica’s Catholic devotion. Located in the northwestern region of the country, Guanacaste is a Costa Rica’s province that is known for its hot weather and its vast variety of beautiful beaches. Some of the most famous ones are Tamarindo, Flamingo, Conchal, Playa del Coco, Bahia de Los Piratas, just to mention a few. It is the perfect winter get-away destination since there is constant heat from April to November. The wet or rainy season is between May and October. In Guanacaste, you can have the certainty that any beach you go to will surely surpass your expectations.
La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano
La Fortuna is a district located in the province of Alajuela, northwest of San Jose. It is an area full of mountains and breath-taking landscapes. But, without a doubt, its main attraction is the Arenal Volcano. There is a national park in this area called Parque Nacional del Volcan Arenal, and, also, a lake called Lago Arenal. Other attractions in this area are the hot spring and the unique horse ridings. This is a must-go place for anyone who loves nature.
