Visiting Mexico? You should go to San Miguel de Allende

The state of Guanajuato in central holds the City of San Miguel Allende, a town historically known as the birthplace of Mexican General Ignacio Allende, and as the first municipality declared independent of Spanish rule during the Mexican War of Independence.

San Miguel de Allende has been designed a World Heritage Site which has increased the touristic flow and the arrival of new residents from abroad year after year. The Baroque and Neoclassical structures from the town’s colonial days have been rediscovered by artists of foreign origins who started art and cultural institutes such as the Instituto Allende and the Escuela de Bellas Artes, which turned the town into an artsy city that attracts artists and artist students from all over the world, every year.

Due to the amount of foreign retirees, artists, writers and tourists that have now settled in San Miguel Allende, the local economy has been shifting from agriculture and industry to commerce catering for outside visitors and residents, which is why you next holiday could be the perfect chance to visit this picturesque town.

One of the main attractions of San Miguel Allende is its very well-preserved colonial downtown. Its cobblestone streets have been praised by pretty much everyone who has visited the area. The narrow streets might not be ideal for a car ride, but navigating this highlands town on foot is as cool as it gets. However, taxis and Ubers are cheap enough to ride back home comfortably.

San Miguel Allende historic district is home to a market where you can get fresh fruits and veggies. In the town, garish signage for businesses is heavily regulated; henceforth figuring out all the shops around you is not that easy. You have to go into the shops, peak though their windows or pop your head through the doorways to discover what’s in each shop. Nevertheless, there’s no better feeling than discovering your new favorite cafe, a new art gallery, a spa or a lovely restaurant to have dinner with your trip companions.

Walking around this picturesque town can add great memories to your holidays and if you are into the artsy scene or into colonial architecture, this is definitely a town worth visiting and an experience worth having in your journal. Your album of architectural picture and your art collection will appreciate it too.
